Students in periods 1, 2, 4 and 6 are finishing their chapter on multiplying and dividing fractions.  We will take our test Tuesday.
Students in 3rd period are working on simplifying algebraic expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms.

Next week students in periods 1, 2, 4 and 6 will be dividing fractions.  We will take our test on multiplying and dividing fractions before winter break.

Students in 3rd period are creating a scale drawing of the solar system as a culminating activity for our unit on ratio and proportion.  Next we will have a short unit on simplifying algebraic expressions.

Students in 3rd period math should be working on their data project, which is due Friday, October 5.  Next week we will also be working on factors and multiples.

Students in periods 1, 2, 4 and 6 have been working on area and perimeter.  This ties in with the backyard deck/pool project they have been working on in STEM.  Next week we will cover scale drawings (also part of the STEM deck/pool project!) and mean, median, mode and range.

Sixth graders in period 3 should be starting to work on their data projects (due Friday, October 5).  Next week we will work on factors, exponents, order of operations.

Sixth graders in 3rd period math had their first test this week, covering integers.  As soon as we have all of our data about ourselves collected, we will be starting our data project--more on that to come!
Sixth graders in periods 1, 2, 4, and 6 are finishing work on chapter 1.  Next week we will be problem solving and reviewing for our test Friday.

Sixth graders in periods 1, 2, 4, and 6 have found and continued patterns, estimated, and worked with powers and exponents.  They will have a quiz Tuesday.

Students in periods 2, 5 and 6 are currently working on percents.  Next week we will do discounts, sales tax, and simple interest.  Our test on ratio, proportion and percent will be Thursday.

Spring MAP

All Lakeview students will be taking MAP tests next week.  Reading will be Monday, math Tuesday.  These tests are very important as they help us to see how students are growing academically, and where their strengths and weaknesses are.  Students should get good sleep Sunday and Monday nights, as well as eat a hearty breakfast Monday and Tuesday morning.  Students should also be encouraged to give their best effort while taking the tests.
Students in periods 1 & 4 will work on surface area next week.  Students in periods 2, 5, and 6 will solve proportions, and apply that knowledge to scale drawings next week.

Hats for Hunter!

Lakeview held a school-wide fund-raiser--Hats for Hunter to support Hunter and his family. We continue to be optimistic as we hear of Hunter's progress.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Periods 2, 5 and 6 are starting their work with integers. Next week we will be adding, subtracting and multiplying integers. Periods 1 and 4 are starting a chapter on perimeter, circumference and area.

All Lakeview students will be taking ISAT tests next week. These tests are very important to our students, as well as to our school as a whole. We encourage students to be well prepared by getting a good night's rest and having a healthly breakfast!

Geometry

All sixth graders continue to work on geometry. Students should be using their flashcards to review and learn vocabulary words. This past week we have classified figures, polygons, quadrilaterals, triangles, for example.
In Homebase we will participate in a Battle of the (Rebecca Caudill) Books! Next week we are up against some stiff competition from Mrs. Benson's and Mrs. Crews's Homebases!

Pack the Place!

All classes are working on geometry. Students should be using their flashcards to learn vocabulary words.
Pack the Place is this Monday and Tuesday! Come cheer our basketball teams on! We will have consessions, and activities for students between the end of school and the start of the game.

Is it Spring?

Cancer Smashers!

Lakeview and Prairieview have had a friendly competition with Eisenhower and Lace Schools to see which district can raise more money for cancer research. Students have been generous with their time and money. Some students canvassed their neighborhood on the early dismissal day to collect donations. Monday is the final day of the competition. Channel 2 will air a story about the competition between the districts on tonight's (Friday's) 10 pm news broadcast.

MAP testing!

All Lakeview students will be taking the MAP test in reading and math early next week. These tests are used to help us determine student strengths and weaknesses, to help us make placement decisions, as well as to help us make decisions about the curriculum. So it is important that students do their best work. In preparation for MAP tests, students should be well rested, and have a good breakfast before coming to school.
Students in periods 1 & 4 will continue working on ratios and proportions next week.
Students in periods 2, 5, 6 will divide fractions next week.
